A case has been filed against at least 4,000 people in connection with the attack, vandalism and arson of almost all government offices in Faridpur's Saltha upazila in protest against "an assault" on a man for violating lockdown rules on Monday night.
Sub-Inspector of Police Md Mizan filed the case with Saltha Police Station on Monday night accusing 88 named people.
Besides, another 3,000-4,000 unnamed people have been accused, said Md Jamal Pasha, additional superintendent of Faridpur Police.
The process to file five more cases is underway, he added.
He also said that eight people have been arrested so far.
Meanwhile, two probe committees have been formed.
One committee has been formed led by additional district magistrate Taslima Ali and another committee led by additional deputy commissioner (revenue) Aslam Mollah.
The committees have been asked to submit report within three working days, said deputy commissioner Atul Sarker.
A man was killed in a shootout as angry locals vandalised and set fire to Saltha UNO residence, police station and Upazila Parishad in protest against "an assault" on a man for violating lockdown rules on Monday night.
The incident erupted after a local man named Zakir Hossain was allegedly beaten up by the assistant of Upazila Assistant Commissioner (land) Marufa Sultana Khan Hiramoni at Fukra Bazar under Sonapur union.
