The Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested three members of the banned militant group Ansar al Islam from capital's Rampura area.

The arrestees are - Syed Taimia Ibrahim alias Anwar, Maruf Chowdhury Mishu alias Farhan and Md Foyzul Morsalin.

A team of CTTC arrested them during a drive on Saturday from the area.

CTTC chief Md Asaduzzaman held a press briefing in this regard at the DMP Media Centre today at 12.30pm.

According to a DMP press release, these people work to collect new member and funding – through online and offline promotions – to bolster the organization and its philosophy.  They have been raising financial assistance for militancy patronage in the name of charity and welfare projects.

The banned outfit operates its' organizational activities via secret modules or cells comprising of 3 to 5 members. All these people are recruited with the help of a cut-out procedure so members of different modules can't recognize one another and their identity remains unexposed.

Reportedly, the detained members of the organisation use encrypted apps as a means of communication.

Syed Taimia Ibrahim joined the group in 2015 after completing his education from North South University and was made responsible for one of the modules of the organization.

Maruf Chowdhury Mishu, after graduating from American International University, entered the group in 2015. He, reportedly, went to the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in 2017 and stayed there for one month to spread extremist propaganda.

After completing education from a private university on Computer Engineering,  Md Foyzul Morsalin joined the group in 2016.

A case has been filed with Rampura Police Station.
