Councillor Rajib denied bail
RAB arrested Rajib for his alleged involvement in extortion, terrorism and land grabbing
A Dhaka court on Monday sent Dhaka North City Corporation Councillor Tarequzzaman Rajib to jail rejecting a bail petition in two cases filed under the Arms Act and Narcotics Control Act.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Abu Sayeed passed the order after Inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of Police Fazlul Haque produced Rajib before the court seeking his jail term until the investigation is over.
On October 21, a Dhaka court placed Rajib on a 14-day remand in the cases.
On October 19, the Rapid Action Battalion arrested Rajib, ward-33 (Mohammadpur) councillor of Dhaka North City Corporation, for his alleged involvement in extortion, terrorism and land grabbing.
Criminal activities from extortion to land grabbing helped him gain a lot of money and power.
Rajib was joint general secretary of Jubo League's Dhaka North City Corporation unit, but was expelled after his arrest for breaching party discipline.
