Bus helper arrested over attempt to rape a Sunamganj college girl

Police have arrested the bus helper from Gobindaganj area of Sunamganj district over attempt to rape a female student on running bus.

"Police arrested Rashid, helper of a Fahad and Maisha Paribahan bus on early Monday," Md Khaleduzzaman, superintendent of Sylhet Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

The driver among four accused are still on the run, the SP further added.

The girl sustained severe injuries as she had to jump off from a bus in Sunamganj's Dirai to escape a rape attempt inside the running vehicle yesterday.

Later, the victim's father lodged a case with Dirai Police Station on Saturday night under the Women and Child Repression Prevention Act.

The girl, a resident of Dirai municipal area, is a graduate student of a local college and she was returning to her home in Dirai by bus from her sister's house in Lamakazi area of Sylhet.

When, the bus driver and his accomplice tried to rape her on the bus in Dirai on Saturday evening, she jumped out of the bus window to escape the rape.

Locals took the injured victim to Dirai Upazila Health Complex and, later, she was referred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital as her condition was critical.
