The Mahananda Express train crashed into a private car in Abhaynagar upazila.

At least four people have died as a train hit a private car at Nawapara rail crossing of Abhaynagar Upazila in Jashore on Friday afternoon.

Of the deceased, two were identified as Hirak Bhuiyan, 45, and Shilpy Begum, 40, both hailing from Narail district.

Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar Police Station, said the incident took place around 5pm when the private car was crossing the rail-track.

The train – Mahananda Express – rammed into the private car, leaving two dead on the spot and four more injured.

Fire Service members and locals rescued the injured and took them to Abhaynagar Upazila Health complex, where a five-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries.

The other injured were later shifted to Khulna Medical College Hosptial, where one more died in the evening.

OC Tajul said Hirak and his friend Asharaful along with their family members were heading towards Abhaynagar town on the private car to attend the inaugural ceremony of a clinic.
