Pre-election clash kills 1 in Chattogram
“The incident took place at Saraipara Loharpool area of South Kattali of ward 11”
A man was stabbed to death during a pre-election clash in Chattogram's Pahartali area on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Arafat Jahid Tanvir, 45, supporter of councilor candidate Morshed Akhter Chowdhury.
Supporters of Ward Councillor candidate Morshed and his rival Ismail locked into a clash in the area, leaving critically injured with stab injuries. He was take to Chattogram Medical College hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 11:30pm.
Confirming the matter, Deputy Commissioner (West) of the port city police Md Farook ul Haque said, "An investigation into the case is underway. Police already detained some suspects over the incident."
Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) elections is expected to hold on March 29.
