1,350 bullet projectiles recovered from Chattogram drain

Police recovered 1,350 abandoned bullet projectiles from a roadside drain in the Sher Shah Bangla Bazar area under Bayezid Bostami Police Station in Chattogram today (25 July).
The projectiles were discovered around 2pm while Chattogram City Corporation sanitation workers were cleaning a drain near Gate no 5 of the BSRM factory.
Confirming the matter, Bayezid Bostami Police Station Inspector (investigation) Mohammad Mostafa Kamal told The Business Standard that the recovered items were not live ammunition.

"These are only the front portions of bullets (projectiles). They do not contain cartridge cases or primers," he said.
Asked who might have dumped the projectiles there or why, the officer said it was too early to draw any conclusions.
"At this stage, we cannot say who left them there or for what purpose. The matter is under investigation. We also cannot confirm whether the projectiles had been used. However, we can confirm that these are not live rounds," he said.
He also said investigators have yet to determine whether the recovered projectiles were used for training purposes or originated from another source, adding that the matter would become clearer after the investigation.
According to locals, the workers noticed a sack inside the drain. After opening it, they found a large quantity of metallic bullet components and immediately informed police.
Being informed, officers from Bayezid Bostami Police Station later arrived at the scene, seized the sack and counted a total of 1,350 bullet projectiles.
