Bangladeshi-American Sheikh Rahman became the first immigrant ever elected to the Georgia Senate of United States in 2018

Sheikh Rahman of Bangladesh origin has been elected as Georgia state senator for the second term in the United States election 2020.

He was elected unopposed from the Democratic Party.

The Georgia Election Board declared him as the winner on Tuesday evening, reports Somoy TV.

Sheikh Rahman, hailing from Kishoreganj, expressed his deep gratitude to all the expatriates and thanked every person of his Motherland Bangladesh.

Sheikh Rahman told the local media "There is a different kind of joy in winning uncontested in a multinational society, with the blessings of all. It will help me move forward."

The number of voters in Rahman's constituency was 14,904.

Among them, the number of Bangladeshi Americans was around 100.
