At least two people have been stabbed to death and five more wounded in the Canadian city of Quebec, said Police.

Police advised residents to stay indoors after a man "dressed in medieval clothing" on Saturday night threatened "multiple victims" with a bladed knife, reports the BBC

According to officers, a man in his mid-20s has been arrested shortly before 01:00 local time (04:00 GMT).

However, as an investigation is underway, residents have been advised to stay inside.

The incident took place near the Parliament Building in the Old Quebec neighbourhood.

First reports of the incident came through shortly before 22:30 local time.

The assailant was taken to the hospital after he was arrested near the Espace 400e business park.

Reporters at the scene tweeted pictures of a police command post outside the Parliament Building in Quebec.
