A hospital in UK's Brighton has been placed on lockdown after a member of staff was stabbed.

Sussex Police said they were called to the Royal Sussex County Hospital at 8.42am local time on Sunday, to reports a staff member had sustained a stab wound, reports the The Independent.

The force said the hospital site was quickly secured while officers worked with security staff to confirm nobody else had been injured.

A 30-year-old man was arrested in nearby Wilson Avenue on suspicion of attempted murder.

He is currently in custody.

Sussex Police said: "This apparently isolated and unexplained incident is not being treated as terrorism at this time and there is currently nothing to suggest that any other person has been involved or that anyone else is at risk.

"An update on the condition of the injured man is awaited."
