The Special Task Force (STF) in India in a joint operation with Burdwan police busted a huge illegal arms factory at Kulti in West Burdwan on May 29.
Abdul Karim alias Boro Karim, the JMB operative believed to be the third top person in the Bangladesh-based terror module, was also arrested by the Kolkata Police special task force in Murshidabad's Suti on the same day, reports Times of India.
DC (STF) Aparajita Rai said that they have recovered about 350 state-of-the-art semi-finished 7mm pistols costing worth lakhs. The cops believe that they were being manufactured either for the upcoming assembly elections or to be sold to criminals in Bangladesh.
"In pursuant to the statement of the main accused in another case, Saukat Ansari, who is lodged in Presidency Correctional Home in a case lodged against him in February, five Jharkhand based persons have been arrested till now and and parts of approx 300 to 350 pieces of 7mm improvised pistols and semi-finished 7mm arms were seized along with multiple heavy machines used for the purpose.
The accused include Md Israr Ahmed, Md Arif, Suraj Kumar Shaw, Umesh Kumar and Arun Kumar Verma - all residents of Dhanbad," said Rai.
Their personal belongings like mobile phones, wallets, cash, one Maruti Omni Van have also been seized. STF said further investigation is on and more arrests are likely.
The STF stated that some Kolkata conduits are also on the radar.
