Walton providing laptops to students at special facilities

The country's electronics giant Walton has signed an agreement with Dhaka Residential Model College to provide laptops to its students at special facilities to ensure the participation of students in online classes amid Covid-19.

The agreement was signed at a program titled 'Provision of Digital Education Aids', held at the college on Wednesday, reads a press release. 

The company will also give laptops to students of other educational institutions gradually in cash payment or easy installments without interest, it added.

At the programme the company handed over laptops to 16 students of the college.

On the occasion, State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak as chief guest said "Our goal is to reach laptops to every student. That's why we had taken initiative since 2016 to manufacture digital devices at the local level."

Alongside the students, Walton laptops are being provided to freelancers in different districts in long-term installments through the ICT department, he added.

Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Department Md Mahbub Hossain was the special guest with Principal of Dhaka Residential Model College Brigadier General Kazi Shamim Farhad in the chair.

Engineer Liakat Ali, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Computer Division of Walton,  said under this agreement, laptops are being given to the students of the college in Tk1,000 monthly installments without interest.

He hopes that this initiative will help insolvent students joining online classes as well as qualify them in a competitive world.
