Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Wednesday said Virtual Private Network (VPN) infrastructure will ensure security of important and confidential activities of the police department.
"The VPN infrastructure will bring 1000 offices of Bangladesh Police under a single umbrella to ensure security of confidential activities of the entire police department," he said while inaugurating VPN connectivity virtually.
The home minister said the VPN connectivity will play a significant role in applying modern technology and digital methods to conduct various activities of police.
He said the National Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure Development (Info Sarkar-3 Phase) implemented the project under Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division.
"With implementation of the VPN connectivity project a new door has been opened to reach digital services to the doorsteps of the people, as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina introduced her Vision-2021 to make Digital Bangladesh," Kamal said.
He said that Personal Information Management System (PIMS) software helped police improve quality of investigation and the Criminal Database Management System (CDMS) also played a role in identifying and unearthing criminals and incidents.
"Police also used the Citizen Information Management System (CIMS) software to preserve house owners and tenets information," the home minister said.
Among others, State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak spoke at the function as the special guest, while NM Ziaul Alam, Secretary, ICT division presided over it.
Besides, Mustafa Kamal Uddin, Secretary, Public Security Division, Inspector General of Police Dr Benazir Ahmed and Parthapratim Dev, Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council joined the program and delivered speeches.
The program was conducted by Bikarna Kumar Ghosh, Project Director, Info-Sarkar 3rd Phase Project.
The home minister also said under the project the VPN connectivity in 1000 offices of Bangladesh Police has been completed.
He said, "People are getting maximum services from police as its capacity has increased and police are using modern technology. Our goal is to build efficient, technology dependent and people friendly police."
