reMarkable’s new e-paper notebook is a pocket-sized productivity machine
With the Paper Pro Move, reMarkable brings colour e-paper, long battery life and a minimalist design into a device the size of a reporter’s notebook
If you have ever wished your trusty notebook could sync with the digital world, reMarkable has come up with a tempting answer. The company, known for its distraction-free e-paper tablets, has shrunk its formula into something you can slip into a pocket.
The new $449 Paper Pro Move brings the familiar charm of the Paper Pro, but in a more mobile size.
The Move features a 7.3-inch colour e-paper screen, almost the exact footprint of a thin paperback. At just 7.6 inches tall and 4.3 inches wide, it is noticeably smaller than the Paper Pro from last year yet keeps the same minimalist design. You still get the ridged edge banding that mimics a sheaf of paper, along with the power button and USB-C port in familiar places.
Performance is modest but sufficient. A dual-core Cortex A55 chip runs the show, supported by 2GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Battery life remains up to two weeks despite the smaller 2,344mAh cell, thanks to the efficiency of the e-paper display. The screen itself is the same Canvas Colour technology from the larger model, offering sharper notes, clear annotations and even colour diagrams.
One highlight is flexibility in use. The toolbar can now be dragged to any edge, handy when switching between portrait and landscape modes. Another is search: Handwritten notes are indexed, which allows you to find a word across notebooks in seconds.
Of course, there are some compromises as well. There is no option for a folio keyboard, of course, which does not make much sense for this size anyway. Additionally, the smaller writing area may feel cramped. Yet for those who prefer quick notes, sketches or reading on the move, the Paper Pro Move makes a strong case.
