Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Ltd, State-owned landphone operator, has launched its over-the-top (OTT) calling application 'Alaap'.

Once 'Alap' is installed, a customer will own a new Alaap number along with their current mobile number.

With the app, users can make calls to any mobile or landphone at 30 paisa per minute with a one-second pulse. The rate will be subject to 15 per cent value-added tax.

Talking and chatting from 'Alaap' to 'Alaap' is free. But for that internet connection is required.

The 'Alaap' app was launched on 26 March, 2021 in Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

More than 400,000 people have so far signed up on the app till 7 April, said a press release on Thursday.

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar inaugurated the virtual app in Dhaka on Sunday and officially unveiled the 'Alaap' logo.
