Are your Android apps crashing? Here’s a solution

Some mobile applications running on Google's Android platform have been reportedly facing unwanted crashes across the globe due to functional error in Android System WebView. 

Due to the problem, apps like Gmail, Google, Yahoo Mail, and others are constantly shutting down and behaving erratically since Tuesday, reports Android Authority. 

Some users have found removing the latest WebView update or uninstalling WebView entirely fixes the issue. Samsung's official US support Twitter account also recommended removing the update.

If removing the update fails to solve the issue, you can try uninstalling WebView by heading to the Google Play Store > My Apps & Games > Installed. Android System WebView should appear in this list of installed apps. Tap on it and hit uninstall. You should then reboot your Android device for the best results.

Remember to reinstall the latest version of WebView once Google fixes the issue. It's an important component that lets apps display web pages.#

The issue has been acknowledged by Google and they are already working on a fix. They have also issued new Android System WebView and Google Chrome updates to address the issue.

Android System WebView is a system component of Android that is supposed to enable Android apps to display web content. Google apparently rolled out a faulty update to WebView, resulting in app crashes.

In a statement to multiple publications, a Google spokesperson said, "We are aware of an issue with WebView causing some apps on Android to crash. We are currently working to fully validate the scope and a fix is in progress."

As of Wednesday, Google's Workspace status page reported that the crashing problem with Gmail on Android has been fixed. 

However, it's unclear whether this fixes problems with other Android app crashes as well. 

According to a report by The Verge, earlier Google said, "We are aware of an issue with WebView causing some apps on Android to crash for some users. We are currently working to fully validate the scope and a fix is in progress."
