Zimbabwe include batting coach as 14th man
Zimbabwe had no batsman left to come in and bat in case of any concussion injury. And thus, Zimbabwe had no other way and included Matsikenyeri in their squad as the 14th man.
An interesting incident has taken place in the series-opener between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe as the visitors fielded their batting coach Stuart Matsikenyeri as their 14th man due to unavailabilities in their squad.
Zimbabwe skipper Sean Williams was already out of the first ODI as he was with his pregnant wife back home. Craig Ervine, one of their most crucial players, faced respiratory problems on Saturday which led to him also being left out.
In such circumstances, Zimbabwe had no batsman left to come in and bat in case of any concussion injury. And thus, Zimbabwe had no other way and included Matsikenyeri in their squad as the 14th man.
Matsikenyeri is no stranger in ODI cricket as he had featured 113 times for Zimbabwe in ODIs. He played his last match back in the 2015 Cricket World Cup and is serving as the batting coach of the Zimbabwe squad now.
