Windies coach Simmons happy with his team's preparation despite obstacles

West Indies cricket team head coach Phil Simmons is very impressed with the commitment of the players and said that the final call regarding the playing XI for the first ODI would be taken on Monday after the warm-up match.

"They have all impressed me. They have all had that hunger in their eyes. They have all tried to do everything that we say. They work hard in their game. They have all impressed me," Simmons said. 

Simmons believes that the skipper Jason Mohammed will step up in absence of the key players. He mentioned, "I think he has a good cricket brain. He has captained quite a few West Indies' age-group teams and also captained Trinidad already. He has that pedigree and ability. I am just expecting him to lead from the front."

Bangladeshi fast bowlers, of late, have been more successful than the spinners especially in white-ball formats. But Simmons feels that their spinners will still pose a big threat. "They still have their four main spinners. Whether they use two or three fast bowlers, is something they might try to change to. It could mean that we get much better pitches to play on, from a point of view of better batting wickets. You never know. It could be a good thing, but the four spinners will still be there."

Most of the players in West Indies' ODI set-up are uncapped. But he doesn't find it too difficult to manage these new players. "It is not that different. You still put the same things in place. You still ask them to do similar training to what we are doing before. It is a different place, and a nice little area to practice. It has been good, not that difficult," Simmons explained.

The West Indies would have wanted few more days to train ahead of the series but Simmons is keen to start the ODI super league on winning note.
