We haven't improved after 20 years of playing Test cricket: Mominul

Test team captain Mominul Haque believes that Bangladesh have not made much progress in 20 years of playing Test cricket. 

"It's been 20 years that we're playing Test cricket but I don't think we've really made much progress. There is no end to improvement and for as long as we play, our goal will be to continue improving," Mominul said at the post-match press conference after Bangladesh were defeated 2-0 in the Test series against the West Indies. 

Bangladesh failed to score more than 300 in any of the innings and the captain does not believe that they batted well enough and put less blame on a Mirpur pitch that started to turn more as the pitch wore out. 

"It was not too difficult to bat on. The bounce was not too excessive, though (Rahkeem) Cornwall got some bounce because of his height. In international cricket, you have to adjust yourself to these things and we failed to do that. That is why the match slipped away from our grasp," Mominul explained. 

Mominul once again admitted that Shakib Al Hasan's injury hurt the side as they failed to find the right balance in the team: "Without Shakib Bhai, it's hard to really get the balance of the team right. And I've said before that when the team loses, you find many deficiencies. When we won against Zimbabwe, these things we're spoken of."

With a Test series against Sri Lanka coming up in April Mominul hoped that the batsmen would play longer: "The most important thing is to bat for long and bat for three-four sessions."
