Tk 20-crore special allocation for football
Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has received Taka 20 crore for the development of country's football in the budget of 2019-20 fiscal year.
An amount of Tk 1,488 crore has been proposed for the Youth and Sports Ministry, including a Tk 20 crore special allocation for Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) for the development of the country's football, in the annual budget for 2019-20 fiscal year.
The proposed allocation is less by 31 crore of the previous (FY 2018-19) revised budget while less by Tk 10 crore of the proposed budget of the last fiscal year.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal made the announcement during the budget speech at the Jatiya Sangasad Bhaban Thursday afternoon.
Of the proposed amount, Tk 1,274 crore has been kept aside for operating expenditure and remaining 214 crore for the development expenditure.
In his budget speech, the Finance Minister said, "Our government is playing an important role in the development of nationwide infrastructures for sports and culture to organise different types of competitions and events at national and district and upazila levels."
Talented players in various sports are being hunted and provided with long-term training, he said.
"In the budget for FY 2019-20, I propose making a special allocation of To 20 crore to Bangladesh Football Federation for the development of football in the country," Mustafa Kamal said.
Earlier, Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) submitted a proposal to the Finance Ministry and Youth & Sports Ministry seeking Tk 50 crore in special allocation to meet the expenditure of players and coaches, and arrange international and domestic tournaments.
In an instant reaction, BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag said, "We would have expected more allocation from the government for the development of football. However, we're happy with this special allocation."
