Bangladesh national cricket team's ODI captain Tamim Iqbal will skip the upcoming T20I series that follows the ODI series against New Zealand due to personal reasons. He confirmed the news during a virtual press conference today.

"I will not be with the team for personal reasons in the T20I series against New Zealand.," Tamim said.

Tamim mentioned he had already informed the head coach Russell Domingo and the selection committee led by Minhajul Abedin about his decision even before flying to New Zealand.

"Before coming to New Zealand, I had informed the head coach and chief selector that I won't be available for the T20I series," he said.

"I will return home after the ODI series but my best wishes will always be with the team."

Tamim had a slight injury and didn't play in the only intra-squad practice match, but he confirmed he is fully fit now.

"I'm now fully fit and took part in training and did everything."

Earlier, ace all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan took paternity leave ahead of the tour and will be unavailable during the T20I series as well.

The first T20 of the series will be held at Seddon Park, Hamilton, on March 28, and it will start at 7 AM Bangladesh time. The second one is at McLean Park, Napier, on March 30, while the third T20 is at Eden Park, Auckland, on April 1. The second and third T20 start at 12 PM Bangladesh time.
