Star archer Ruman Shana has retired from Bangladesh national team according to reports in local media on Sunday. Shana has already sent a letter to the Archery Federation and cited “personal reasons” behind the decision.

Star archer Ruman Shana has retired from Bangladesh national team, according to Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chopol, general secretary of the Bangladesh Archery Federation.

Shana has already sent a letter to the Archery Federation and cited "personal reasons" behind the decision.

"We have received a letter from him and he has been relieved of his duties. He has cited personal reasons for retirement," Chopol told The Business Standard.

Chopol said the federation doesn't want Shana to retire but the archer is adamant. "We requested him to reconsider the decision, but he is adamant. He intends to venture into some business," Chopol added.

Shana had not been in form of late. He was given a two-year ban for disciplinary reasons but the suspension was reduced to six months later. He wasn't part of the Bangladesh contingent in the Asia Cup Stage 1 in Iraq recently.

However, the training committee will have the final say, according to the federation's general secretary. "We still have time before deciding. I will hand over the issue to the training committee after returning to the country," he said.
