One of the big talking points ahead of the first Test match against West Indies has been the fitness of ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan but head coach Russell Domingo has assured that Shakib would be ready come the first Test.

Shakib picked up a groin injury while bowling in the third and final ODI and did not take part in the three-day practice match.

"Obviously, Shakib (Al Hasan) is an important player for us. He steadies our batting and our bowling. He's a world-class all-rounder and very difficult to replace in any format. And preparation for him hasn't been easy after picking up a groin niggle in the last ODI," Domingo told the media on Monday.

Although Domingo admitted that Shakib was still recovering from the injury and not fully fit, he was confident that the left-hander would be 100 per cent fit for the first Test.

"He's gone through his rehab. He's still not quite at 100 per cent but he's got another day or so and we're pretty confident that he will be ready for the first Test starting on Wednesday. He's worked really hard in his rehab. He's bowled a few balls in the nets and hit a few balls and he's not feeling too much discomfort. So we're pretty confident that he'll be ready for Wednesday," he concluded.
