Although the day began well for Bangladesh's ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, it ended with disappointment and frustration as he re-injured his groin and left the field in discomfort.

Shakib was batting on 39 when the second day of the first Test against West Indies in Chattogram began and Shakib went on to score 68, although a century was in the cards.

But it was after bowling in his third over that he grimaced and felt discomfort in his groin whiled fielding off his own bowling in the second ball of that over.

He bowled three more overs but was in clear discomfort before leaving the field with an hours play left.

Julian Calefato, the Bangladesh team physio has informed that the 33-year-old is taking rest and under observation and a decision about his participation will not be taken before Friday morning.

"Shakib was feeling a bit of discomfort so he had to leave the field. We are making sure we take the necessary precaution and follow the necessary procedures. We will make a decision on his availability and fitness tomorrow morning," Calefato told the media on Thursday.

Shakib injured his groin earlier in the third ODI against the visiting Windies and there too, he injured it while fielding off his own bowling.
