SAARC Chess: Five players share top slot

The 7th round matches will be held on Sunday from 3:00 pm at the same venue.

SAARC Chess: Five players share top slot

Five players shared the top slot in the 1st Saarc (Open & Women's) Chess Championship 2019 securing five points each after the 6th round matches at FARS Hotel & Resorts in the capital on Saturday. 

The leaders are, GM Ziaur Rahman, GM Eanmul Hossain Razib, CM Subrota Biswas, Indian IM Mohammad Nubairshah Shaikh and Indian IM Prantik Roy. 

Seven players are in the 2nd slot with 4.5 points each. They are IM Abu Sufian Shakil, IM Mahmood Lodhi of Pakistan, FM Sheikh Nasir Ahmed, FM Khandaker Aminul Islam, CM Sohel Chowdhury, Uten and Avik Sarker. 

In the Women's Section, IM Sharmin Sultana Shirin maintained her solo lead securing 5.5 points. 

CM Jannatul Ferdous and Dahampriya Dewnethmie of Sri Lanka are in the 2nd position with 4.5 points each. 

Three players sharing the 3rd slot with 4 points each. They are WIM Rani Hamid, WCM Samiha Sharmin Shimmi and Kishwara Shajrin Evana. 

In the 6th round matches of the open section, GM Zia drew with GM Razib, IM Nubairsha beat Souraath Biswas, IM Prantik beat IM Lodhi, IM Shakil drew with CM Sohel Chowdhury,  Subrota beat IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman, FM Nasir beat CM Manon Reja Neer, FM Amin beat M. Sariatullah, Uten beat Mohammed Abdul Malek, Avik beat CM M. Sharif Hossain and Tahsin Tajwar Zia beat Waqar Ahmad Madni of Pakistan.

In the women's  6th round matches, WIM Shirin beat WIM Rani Hamid, Dahampriya beat WFM Zakia Sultana, WCM Jannatul beat Ahmed Walijah, WCM Shimmi beat Wadifa Ahmed, Evana beat Warsia Khusbu, WFM Nazrana Khan beat Nusrat Jahan Alo while Shrestha Surai of India beat Aeon Sarker. 

The 7th round matches will be held on Sunday from 3:00 pm at the same venue.
