No panic in team selection, says Domingo

Bangladesh National Cricket team coach Russell Domingo has said that the team will not panic and bring in instant changes to the side only because of a bad match. Domingo said this in a pre-match press conference on Saturday ahead of the series decider between Bangladesh and India at Nagpur. 

Domingo said that the Indian team have a lot of left-handers and the off-spinners not working on the given day will not bring instant changes to the side. He said, "Our off-spinners worked a game ago, but just because it did not work in the last game does not mean everything has to change. We don't want to be a team that makes knee-jerk reactions to a loss. It has been the case for this team for too long. We want to back a certain group of players." He added that somebody having a bad game will not mean that he would not play for six months and also said that the team believed that those who played in the first two games were good enough. 

He added that the players were to be credited for the effort they put in and nobody would have believed even two weeks ago that Bangladesh would go to Nagpur with a chance to clinch the series. "We are pretty happy where we are, and it is a great opportunity tomorrow. The guys are really excited about it. At the end of the day, India are one of the best sides in the world. No one gave Bangladesh a chance, but we think if we play to our potential, we have a chance tomorrow," the South African added. 

The 44-year old said that he was very impressed with Bangladesh's young leg-spinner Aminul Islam Biplob. "I have always liked a legspinner and I know Biplob is more of a batsman who can bowl leg-spin, but I have been impressed by his energy, desire and work ethic. Even against Rohit Sharma in the previous game, he ended up bowling 3.5 overs to take two wickets for 23 runs before going for a six. He bowled really well, for a young boy to bowl under that kind of pressure," Domingo added. 

Domingo said that getting a big score was necessary to guarantee a win and added that batsmen should not throw off good starts. He said, "Mushfiqur Rahim got the big score in the first game, so we won. Rohit got the big score so they won the second game. When we get to the thirties, we need someone to get into seventies or eighties."

He also added that the Bangladesh batsmen were not trying to get out rather they were just making bad decisions at a crucial time. He also said that he did not think that it was a technical thing but was the decision-making at crucial moments which needed to improve.

Bangladesh will take on India in the third match of the three-match T20I series at Nagpur, in which a win would guarantee Bangladesh a maiden series win in this format against India.
