Never thought I'd be among the top five bowlers: Miraz
"It's a great feeling. I never thought that I would be one of the top five bowlers. My teammates also congratulated me," said Miraz.
Off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz has risen to 4th position in the ICC rankings for ODI bowlers. He moved up nine spots to become one of the top five ODI bowlers currently as per ICC rankings.
Miraz bowled sensationally in the recently concluded ODI series between Bangladesh and the West Indies where he picked up seven wickets in three matches. He was very economical as well, conceding only 2.7 runs per over.
Miraz, who wasn't even sure if he would find a place in the playing XI before the series, has now grabbed the spotlight. His joy knew no bounds when he heard the news.
"It's a great feeling. I never thought that I would be one of the top five bowlers. My teammates also congratulated me," said Miraz.
Miraz rose to prominence when he spun England away in his debut Test series. But the youngster always wanted to replicate this success in white ball cricket as well.
"When I started, I had it in my mind that I would play all formats. I worked on different aspects to play and do well in ODI cricket," he explained.
"I thought that if I had to play ODI cricket, then I have to focus on economy rate and breaking partnerships. Whenever I bowl, I try to maintain a good economy rate as well as give crucial breakthroughs," added Miraz.
Mustafizur Rahman moved up 11 places to become the 8th ranked bowler in ICC ODI rankings for bowlers. Miraz is happy to see his teammate excel too. "It's great to see Mustafiz in the top 10. He is a world-class bowler and won us many games. This recognition is something which he needed," Miraz concluded.
