National handball player, friend killed in Kushtia road crash

The deceased were identified as Sohanur Rahman Sohan, son of Kalu Mondal, the goalkeeper of Bangladesh national handball team, and his friend Solaiman Hossain Joy, son of Shaidul Islam.

A national handball team player and his friend were killed in a road accident in Daulatpur upazila on Friday morning.

The deceased were identified as Sohanur Rahman Sohan, son of Kalu Mondal, the goalkeeper of Bangladesh national handball team, and his friend Solaiman Hossain Joy, son of Shaidul Islam. Both were residents of Bahirmadi village of the upazila.

Family members said Sohan had returned home to spend his vacation. He was going to Daulatpur on a motorcycle with Joy in the morning.

The accident took place when a three-wheeler collided with their motorcycle at Hosnebad Bazar around 11am, leaving them critically injured.

Later, they were taken to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors pronounced Sohan dead, said Dr Tapas Kumar Sarker, resident medical officer (RMO) of the hospital.

Doctors recommended shifting Joy to Dhaka for better treatment but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
