A lot has been said and done regarding the cricketer's wages and payment in the recent months. Cricketers called a strike before the India series demanding a hike in their salaries and wages. Veteran batsmen Mushfiqur Rahim re-iterated those demands just before the day his team Khulna Tigers are going to play their first match of this year's special edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

The Bangladesh batting stalwart expressed his views on this year's edition and stated that BCB have assured them of better wages from the next edition.

"Yes, we were given the assurance that things will be fixed from the next BPL. This year's edition was rushed, in a way we got lucky that eventually the tournament is taking place. Please note the differences between the wages of local and a foreign player."

"Hopefully, we will get our wages on time from now on. We play throughout the year, still we earn a lot less the players who play T20s. That is a disadvantage for us. Local players get more wages in all the other leagues of the world." said Mushfiqur.

He also urged the local cricketers to up-the-ante, to make things easier for the cricket board. Mushfiqur thinks the BPL will provide a perfect platform for all the cricketers to prove their talent.

"We should improve our game also, so that we get an increase in our wages from next year. A lot of good players did not get a team this year. In this regard, this year's BPL is challenging for me and all of us." he said.

The master batsman suggested that a better paycheck will encourage the local players to perform better, which will help the national team at the end of the day.

"There should be a review for the 50-60 performers who are participating and performing every year. They are playing good in the local circuit and even in BPL. Look at the likes of Taijul, Shafiul and Rahi (Abu Jayed) they perform regularly but are still in B or C grade. If we look after them, then only Bangladesh cricket will benefit." added Mushfiqur.
