Mushfiqur Rahim already held the record of the most double centuries by a Bangladeshi batsman with his two against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
In Bangladesh's one-off Test against Zimbabwe, Mushfiq not only increased that record to three as he picked up another double but also became the highest run-scorer for Bangladesh surpassing Tamim Iqbal.
Tamim has 4405 in 60 Tests for Bangladesh, averaging 38.66. Mushfiq now has 4413 runs from 70 Tests, averaging 36.77.
Mushfiq is now the only Bangladeshi batsman with three double hundreds. Only two other Bangladeshi batsman - Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim - have double hundreds for Bangladesh, but they both have one each.
Ainsley Ndlovu came into bowl his 42nd over when Mushfiq was on 198. Ndlovu bowled a short delivery and Mushfiq cut it through point and jumped in ecstasy.
Mushfiq played 315 deliveries to reach his double and spent434 minutes at the crease. On his way, he hit 28 fours.
Mushfiq came into bat on day two after Nazmul Hossain Shanto was dismissed for 71 and put up 222-run with skipper Mominul Haque to put Bangladesh in complete control of the Test. And when Bangladesh declared on 560-6, Mushfiq was unbeaten on 203.
Mushfiq scored his first double hundred back in 2013 when he scored 200 against Sri Lanka at Galle. His second double came in 2018 when he scored an unbeaten 219 against Zimbabwe at Mirpur. In that innings, he took back his record of Bangladesh's highest individual score as he went past Shakib's 217.
Bangladesh skipper Mominul had said before the match that someone would score big in this Test. And he would be glad that one of his senior talismans came back to the side and proved his words true.
