Mushfiqur Rahim has issued a public apology to teammate Nasum Ahmed and asked for forgiveness after his actions in the field on Monday.
Social media was abuzz with images and videos of the Beximco Dhaka captain aiming the ball at Nasum Ahmed and wanting to hit him during fielding.
Most of the comments were calling his behaviour unprofessional and unbecoming of a team's captain.
The news was quickly reported by all the top media houses in the country and even international media such as Wisden, shared the news with the video of Mushfiq's actions.
There were two occasions when Mushfiq made this gesture of wanting to hit Nasum with the ball in his hand.
The first was while the off-spinner was bowling and Mushfiq ran over to the non-striker's end to save a run when Nasum wasn't backing up behind the stumps.
And the second was when Mushfiq took the catch of key batsman, Afif Hossain, running towards short third man, where Nasum was also stationed and both players almost collided with one another.
On his verified Facebook page Mushfiq wrote: "Assalamualaikum to all, First of all officially I would like to apologize to all my fans and spectators regarding the incident that happened yesterday during the match. I have already apologized after the game to my fellow team mate Nasum. Secondly I seek forgiveness from Almighty. I always remember I am a human being above all and the gesture that I have shown was not acceptable at all. In shaa Allah in near future I promise it won't be repeated on the ground or outside the ground....JazakAllah khair."
Dhaka won the Eliminator against Fortune Barishal and will now face Gazi Group Chattogram after they were defeated in the first Qualifier against Gemcon Khulna and only time will tell if Mushfiq's actions had a positive or negative impact on his team.
