Fifa and AFC to defer World Cup and Asian Cup qualifiers to 2021

Keeping in mind the current dire Covid-19 situation in many countries across the globe and Asia, the Fifa and  Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have decided to postpone the 2022 World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup qualifiers to 2021.

Keeping in mind the current dire Covid-19 situation in many countries across the globe and Asia, the Fifa and  Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have decided to postpone the 2022 World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup qualifiers to 2021.

A media release from the AFC read, "Fifa and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have jointly decided that the upcoming qualifying matches for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023, originally scheduled to take place during the international match windows in October and November 2020, will be rescheduled to 2021."

The media release also suggested that new dates of the qualifying matches will be announced in due course.
