Mushfiq wants to give up keeping in Tests to reduce the workload
Star Tiger batsman and wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim wants to focus more on his batting in Test matches. To achieve that he wants to let his keeping gloves go.
The veteran right-hander thinks it is high time to stay away from wicket-keeping. "For the time being, I want to focus more on batting in Test matches. That is why I would not mind giving away wicket-keeping. There are a lot of matches in the schedule and I play all the formats. I also play DPL and BPL. I think I am getting overloaded." he said in an interview to a local media outlet.
However, Mushfiq enjoys keeping in the shorter formats. He would carry on with his glovework in ODIs and T20s. But the longer format demands more focus and as one of the premier batsmen of the side, he wants to contribute more with the bat. The former captain has six centuries and 19 half-centuries in Test cricket.
To prepare for his new role, Mushfiq practiced ground-fielding and high catching before the NCL. Bangladesh also has another established keeper-batsman in its ranks in Liton Das. In Mushfiq's absence, he will be the team's number one keeper.
