Former cricketers react to Shakib’s suspension
Former cricketers expressed their views to The Business Standard on the suspension of Shakib.
Athar Ali Khan
- Former Cricketer and International Broadcaster
"I could not believe my ears when I heard the news. It made me sad and I still can not believe that a cricketer of Shakib's stature would miss the opportunity to inform ICC about the approach of the bookie. This is a sad day for Bangladesh cricket. I had big hopes with him leading the team and moving his nation forward. I just hope he can come back from this. But he should have set a good example in front of the cricket fans and the young cricketers."
Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu
- Former National Team Captain
"Yes, it is a sad day for Bangladesh cricket. He should have been careful with the regulations. But I wish he can come back from this strongly. It is surely not the end of the road for him. But the fans will surely miss Shakib on the field."
Raqibul Hasan
- Former National Team Captain
"He suffered the consequences of breaching an ICC code of conduct. Nevertheless, he can resume playing after one year. He is a young man. I hope he keeps himself fit and healthy so that he can come back stronger once the suspension period is over. And by no means Shakib Al Hasan's career is over."
Minhazul Abedin
- Former Cricketer and Chief selector
"The gap Shakib has left is quite big. We'll be missing the world's best allrounder for a year. Obviously I am feeling very bad for him."
Akram Khan
- Former Cricketer and Director of Operations
"I am feeling very sad for Shakib. After a very long time, we are going to tour India for a full series and we are missing him there. He was on song and I am feeling very sad for him and Bangladesh cricket. I believe that Shakib with his mentality will come back strongly soon."
Habibul Bashar
- Former National Team Captain and BCB selector
"Saddest day for me and Bangladesh cricket. But as far as I know Shakib, he will come back very strongly. "
