Cricket World Cup trophy coming to Bangladesh in August

The ODI World Cup will be held in India this October with the tournament starting on 5 October and ending on 19 November.

As the countdown to the tournament has already begun, the world tour of the World Cup trophy has also started and the World Cup trophy will be brought to Bangladesh on a two-day tour.

BCB Chief Executive Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said this in Mirpur on Tuesday.

The World Cup trophy will arrive in Dhaka on 7 August and will be taken away on 9 August.

In the intervening two days, the trophy will be displayed for public viewing at one of the shopping malls in the country.

The venue of the exhibition is yet to be finalised, but the photo session will be held at Padma Bridge.

The World Cup trophy will also be taken to the BCB office to be displayed to the cricketers.

The BCB chief executive said, "The Cricket World Cup trophy is being sent to Bangladesh as part of the ICC trophy tour. ICC has done such activities before. It is a campaign by ICC before the World Cup. The trophy will arrive in Bangladesh on 7 August and it will be taken away on the 9th."

"Now the plan is to make arrangements for general public viewing in a public place. Apart from this, those who are related to our board and cricket, if they are interested, arrangements will be made to visit them," he added.

In response to the question of whether the trophy will be displayed in front of an iconic monument, Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said: "It is a demand of the ICC, the country to which the trophy goes; Having a photo session in the iconic location of the country. Earlier it was done in front of our National Parliament building. Padma Bridge is a pride of our country, an iconic structure. We have plans to arrange a photo session of the World Cup trophy with the Padma Bridge.

BCB is planning to place the trophy in a shopping mall for the common people to see. This arrangement will be kept for one day. BCB chief executive said, 'We have plans so far to put it in a shopping mall. This was done before. So we will try to make it visible to common people as much as possible. In that case, we will probably give it some time on the 8th or 9th (for an exhibition at the shopping mall).''

Although discussions have already been held with two shopping malls, the location has not been finalised.

But BCB's favourite place is Bashundhara Shopping Complex and Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said, "We have already spoken to the authorities of two shopping malls. Probably Bashundhara shopping mall is where we plan. They have one day off each week. Maybe we have to keep adapting like that."

The trophy will also be taken to the BCB office where there will be arrangements for watching players and journalists and there will also be a photo session, "Cricket will definitely be brought on board. There will be viewing arrangements for the players and you (journalists). We have plans for a photo session with those concerned, our national team," said the BCB chief executive.

Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, when asked whether seeing the World Cup trophy from the front will motivate the cricketers, said, "Of course. All of our people who are or will be in the national team have been involved with our cricket before. I think they have had this experience before. However, there will be an added interest for those who will take part (in the World Cup) for the first time this year."
