After the annual meeting of the BCB, President Nazmul Hassan announced that BPL will be named permanently as Bangabandhu BPL from now on to honour the father of the nation.

The current edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) was rebranded as the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League T20 2019-20 after the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to commemorate his 100th birthday.

After not being able to come to terms with the franchises, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) discarded its ties with them and ran the BPL on their own this time with help from sponsors.

But after the annual meeting of the BCB, President Nazmul Hassan announced that BPL will be named permanently as Bangabandhu BPL from now on to honour the father of the nation.

Questioned if the franchises will return, the BCB president said that franchises would return but the name will remain the same.

Nazmul also added that this BPL has been a massive success as the local youngsters have performed well and that has helped the BCB to have a lot of options to choose from for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.
