BD vs SL: Shoriful picks the only wicket as Sri Lanka pile on 291 runs after day one

Sri Lanka are comfortable after the end of first day's play as they bagged 291 runs for the loss of only 1 wicket.

Dimuth Karunaratne and Lahiru Thirimanne both reached their hundred respectively while Lahiru batted through the entire day remaining not out on 131 runs.

His partner Oshada Fernando is unbeaten on 40 runs.

For Bangladesh bowlers, it was a tough day. They put up a pretty decent show on a batting-friendly pitch but managed to pick only one wicket.

Debutant Shoriful Islam picked his maiden Test wicket and broke the 209-run opening partnership. That was the only success for the Tigers.

Taskin Ahmed was unlucky as he saw catches being dropped off his bowling in the first session of the day.

Shoriful's maiden Test wicket breaks 209-run opening partnership

Shoriful Islam picked up his maiden Test wicket and broke the 209-run opening partnership.

Bangladesh bowlers had to toil hard throughout the day and finally got success after two wicketless sessions.

The opening partnership of Dimuth Karunaratne and Lahiru Thirimanne lasted 63.1 overs before Dimuth was caught behind.

Dimuth bagged118 runs before departing. Lahiru is unbeaten on 89 runs.

Dropped chances lead to a wicketless first session

Taskin Ahmed was unlucky as he saw catches being dropped off his bowling in the first session of the second Test match.

Taskin found Lahiru Thirimanne's edge multiple times and had Dimuth Karunaratne dropped on one clear occasion which Shanto missed at slip.

Bangladesh bowlers started off pretty well but Sri Lanka openers survived the shaky start.

Dimuth Karunaratne and Lahiru Thirimanne both remained not out on 32 each.

Sri Lanka bagged 66 runs in 27 overs before lunch.

4 bowlers were used by Mominul Haque.

Shoriful makes Test debut as Bangladesh bowl first in second Test

Bangladesh lost the toss and will be bowling first in the second and final Test in Kandy.

Left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam, who made his international debut in New Zealand last month, now makes his way into the Test team.

He last played a first-class match in 2018.

The southpaw replaces Ebadot Hossain in the playing eleven and that's the only change for Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka made a couple of changes while left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama makes his Test debut.

Sri Lanka have left out Wanindu Hasaranga, and instead of the injured Lahiru Kumara, they're playing an extra spinner in the off-spin-bowling allrounder Ramesh Mendis.

Bangladesh XI: 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Saif Hassan, 3 Najmul Hossain Shanto, 4 Mominul Haque (capt), 5 Mushfiqur Rahim, 6 Liton Das (wk), 7 Mehidy Hasan Miraz, 8 Taijul Islam, 9 Taskin Ahmed, 10 Shoriful Islam, 11 Abu Jayed.

Sri Lanka XI: 1 Dimuth Karunaratne (capt), 2 Lahiru Thirimanne, 3 Oshada Fernando, 4 Angelo Mathews, 5 Dhananjaya de Silva, 6 Pathum Nissanka, 7 Niroshan Dickwella, 8 Ramesh Mendis, 9 Suranga Lakmal, 10 Vishwa Fernando, 11 Praveen Jayawickrama.
