BCB's broadcasting rights sold to Ban Tech for BDT 161.7 crore

Ban Tech, a local marketing agency, has bought the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) TV broadcasting rights for two and a half years (two years and four months). According to the ICC's FTP (Future Tour Plan), they will broadcast all the soil matches of the Bangladesh national cricket team over the next 28 months.

In total, Ban Tech has bought TV rights for 9 home series at a price of more than Tk 161.73 crore (USD 19 million). These 9 home series have 7 Tests, 18 ODIs and 19 Twenty20 matches.

Ban Tech competed in open bidding last Monday.

In open bidding, there was no other competitor except them. As a result, Ban Tech is the only company to get TV rights.

The BCB confirmed the news through a press conference in Mirpur on Tuesday.

At the press conference, BCB media committee chairman Jalal Yunus said, 'Our floor price was Tk 150 crore. We were able to sell the rights for a little more than that. They will broadcast every match of the home series of the Bangladesh team during the next two years. Only Ban Tech took part in the bidding. We have not received any offer from any other organization."

AGM Sabbir, CEO of Ban Tech, said, "We will give Tk 161.73 crore to BCB in the next two years. We thank them for giving us such an opportunity. The value of the home series is always higher. Hopefully, advertisers will be interested because cricket is our biggest means of entertainment."

The BCB had invited tenders for the sale of home series TV rights from May 18 this year to October 5, 2023.

Ban Tech bought the broadcasting rights for the West Indies series held in the country in January-February for Tk 17 crore 97 lakh. 

BCB was selling TV rights for a certain series during Covid. This time BCB signed a two-year contract without following the same path again.

However, like last time, Ban Tech is selling the rights to T Sports and Gazi Television to telecast the matches.

According to the ICC FTP, several series will be held in Bangladesh in the next two years.

India are scheduled to come to Bangladesh in November 2022 to play three ODIs and two Tests. Apart from this, Sri Lanka are scheduled to visit Bangladesh twice and New Zealand, Pakistan, Afghanistan and West Indies till January 2023.
