BCB will not take legal action against Shakib, says BCB CEO

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury has said that they think that taking legal action against Shakib Al Hasan is not necessary.

Shakib, Bangladesh National team's T20I and Test captain, sparked another debate when he signed a contract with telecom company Grameenphone. BCB said that Shakib's contract with Grameenphone breached his (Shakib) contract with BCB.

Reportedly, it was clearly stated in the central contracts of the players that they can not sign a contract with any telecom company. Even if they do receive an offer, they (players) must inform the board about it. But Shakib did not follow any of the two regulations and thus BCB were supposed to act against him. Reportedly, some other players also received this offer but the board forbade them to sign it.

This rule of not signing deals with telecom companies was introduced when Robi was the sponsor of BCB. After Robi cancelled their contract with BCB, BCB applied the embargo on signing any type of contract with a telecom company.

The BCB President expressed his anger regarding the issue and said that what Shakib did was illegal and will take legal action against him and the telecom company he signed with. He also said that Shakib's decision to sign a contract when the players were on a strike was outrageous. He further added that the board will not do any compromise even if Shakib asked to.

But that might not be necessary as the BCB CEO has said that this was an internal matter of the board and legal action is not required here. Nizamuddin said, "This is completely an internal matter of the board. As this is an internal matter, we do not think that we need to take legal action against Shakib."

But he also added that, Shakib must explain himself and tell the board why he signed the contract.

In such circumstances, Shakib missed the practice match at the Tigers' conditioning camp and also did not take part in the camp earlier. This is the second time in this conditioning camp when Shakib did not arrive as the skipper of the side also missed the first day.
