BCB on high alert over Covid-19 outbreak

The whole world is panicked over the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak. It has brought the whole world to a standstill and along with everything, the sporting arena has also come to a halt. 

On Wednesday, for the first time coronavirus took life in Bangladesh. Educational institutions were already shut down and so were sports. All domestic sporting events were suspended until March 31, 2020, whereas all international sporting events were postponed to April 30, 2020. 

In Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the officials had to still work from their respective offices. But the country's cricket hierarchy has already taken precautionary measures. Everyone coming through the gate of the Mirpur stadium has to clean their hands with hand sanitizer. 

The second round of the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier League (BDPL) was already suspended and BCB is set to postpone the upcoming rounds. There has been no official announcement but it is about to arrive. 

Even though the matches are suspended, players are working on their fitness at the ground. And that is why hand sanitizers have been provided to the security guards. Whoever comes through, has to wash their hands with it. 

A security guard instilled at BCB's main gate told The Business Standard, "Everyone is aware of coronavirus. BCB has told us to stay aware. We have been instructed to let anyone through after they have washed their hands with hand sanitizers."

Not only the BDPL but the third leg of Bangladesh's tour to Pakistan also was postponed because of the pandemic. The Tigers were set to play a one-off One-day International (ODI) and their second Test at Karachi but that came to a standstill. Also, two T20Is set to celebrate Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's 100th birthday has also been postponed. 

The coronavirus situation in Bangladesh has worsened with time as the total number of infected has increased to 14 on Wednesday.
