BCB could block Shakib from playing in the IPL

Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan might not play in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Akram Khan, the chairman of cricket operations department of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), said that Shakib could be sent to Sri Lanka with the team to play the Test series in April.

Akram informed that the BCB will rethink its decision of granting Shakib the No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play in the IPL. 

Shakib Al Hasan, earlier, had revealed on an interview to Cricfrenzy that Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Akram Khan had "probably not read" the letter the ace all-rounder sent to the board regarding him taking a leave from national team duties to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Shakib added that he nowhere mentioned that he doesn't want to play Tests. Akram quoted Shakib and said that if Shakib has the desire to play Tests, he will be sent to Sri Lanka.

After a meeting at the BCB president Nazmul Hassan's residence on Sunday, Akram said, "A lot of you have called me over phone to know whether I had opened his letter. His message may have been misinterpreted by me. Now that he has expressed his desire to play Tests, we will rethink about our decision to grant him the NOC. If he wants to play Tests, then he'll go to Sri Lanka."

Akram said that the meeting was not about Shakib. "We didn't sit today to discuss about this. As far as I know, Shakib gave a long interview. We don't exactly know what he said. Today's meeting was mainly about the New Zealand tour. We don't want this issue to affect the performance of the team."
