BCB calls 9 players from NCL to join national training camp
The national team, split into two teams, will play two practice T20 matches on Sunday and Monday ahead of leaving the country for India.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) called nine cricketers, currently playing the third round of the National Cricket League (NCL) on an immediate basis to join the national training camp.
The national team, split into two teams, will play two practice T20 matches on Sunday and Monday ahead of leaving the country for India.
Rajshahi division players – Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Sabbir Rahman, Khulna division players – Mohammad Mithun, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Chattogram players – Yasir Ali, Nayeem Hasan, Rangpur player Rishad Hossain, Dhaka Metro player Abu Haider Rony and Sylhet Player Ebadat Hossain are the nine cricketers who were called up to national camp for the practice matches.
All of those players are currently outside of Dhaka.
Chief selector Minhajul Abedin said that they have the provision of calling any cricketer any time for the sake of the national team and the rest cricketers of those divisional teams would replace the players called up by BCB.
"There is a rule of bringing any cricketer at any time if the national team needs him. We have two practice matches on next two days and the players will join the team for the practice matches," Minhajul Abedin said here on Saturday.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon earlier said that they would bring some spinners for the practice match so that their new-spin bowling coach Daniel Vettori could observe them before the India tour.
"We have asked to call a total of eight players for two practice matches on next two days," Papon said.
"We have two practice matches in the next two days. The problem is Vettori is here but we don't have many spinners here. But the team is going to India to play against a strong side in Twenty20s and Tests," he added.
"If you want to name spinners as example, we understand Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam. There are few new spinners like Rishad and Nayeem. Apart from that, we have Afridi, Apu….As none of the spinners here, the coach has no option. There are only two spinners to see – Sunny and Biplob. They are good but I thought that Vettori should see some spinners before the series gets underway. Because of that, we wanted to call some players," he added.
"Our first-class matches got underway today. As some of the matches didn't start, we won't have a problem there. And we will have to bring some players from other matches that started," he informed.
