Batsmen shine in HP squad's practice match

Towhid Hridoy-led Team B prevailed over Team A led by Afif Hossain by six wickets in the first limited over match of the High Performance (HP) camp at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday. 

Three batsmen of the world cup winning under-19 side- Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Towhid Hridoy, and Shamim Patwary were instrumental to Team B's success. The unbroken partnership of 106 for the fifth wicket between skipper Hridoy and Patwary got them over the line after opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim gave them a good platform.

While chasing 241, Team B openers made a cautious start. Parvez Hossain Emon got dismissed in the tenth over. Mahmudul Hasan Joy and wicketkeeper-batsman Akbar Ali put on handy partnerships with Tamim. When the southpaw got out for a run-a-ball 74 as the fourth batsman, Team B still needed 106 off 127 balls. Tamim's innings was studded with nine fours and two sixes.

Hridoy held the innings together with a gritty 50 off 79 while Shamim Patwary played the role of the aggressor. He scored 67 off 68 where he hit six fours and a six. Team B reached the target with 15 balls to spare.

Rakibul Hasan, Sumon Khan, Tanvir Islam, and Noman Chowdhury Sagor picked up a wicket apiece. 

Earlier, Team A could score no more than 240 for seven wickets in their allotted 50 overs. The lack of any substantial partnership hurt them. Opener Naim Sheikh scored 67 off 69 while the skipper Afif Hossain got 50 off 80. Rejaur Rahman Raja and Mukidul Islam Mugdho picked up a couple apiece while Hasan Morad and Shamim Patwary shared two among themselves.
