Bhutan have defeated Bangladesh 1-0 in their Round Robin league football match of the South Asian Games in Kathmandu on Monday.

The defeat comes as a big blow for Jamie Day's men as they were initially targeting a gold medal in football, but now a place in a final even seems uncertain.

Bangladesh created some good goal-scoring opportunities in a goalless first half.

In the 38th minute, Mohammad Ibrahim produced a beautiful cross to Saad Uddin, whose header unfortunately went awry.

The goal for Bhutan came in the 65th minute where Chencho Gyeltshen took advantage of a defensive error from Bangladesh and finished off neatly.

Bangladesh – who won gold in the SA Games in 1999 and 2010 – won their last two encounters against Bhutan 4-1 and 2-0, and started the game off as favourites.
