Bangladesh A began their Emerging Asia Cup campaign with a 48-run loss to Sri Lanka A on Thursday at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.
Bangladesh A, captained by Saif Hassan, were bowled out for 301 in 48.3 overs in response to Sri Lanka A's 349 for eight.
Mohammad Naim and Saif's fifties gave Bangladesh A momentum, but the batters failed to make their start count.
Soumya Sarker hit a 46-ball 42, aided by Rakibul Islam's 36-ball 40, but it wasn't enough as Sri Lanka tightened the screws to win the first game.
Pramod Madushan of Sri Lanka and Dushan Hemantha of Sri Lanka both took three wickets.
Earlier, Avishka Fernando hit a 124-ball 133 to help Sri Lanka A reach 349 for eight.
Bangladesh Sheikh Mahedi, an off-spinner, kept things tight by taking one wicket for 48 runs in his full quota, while Soumya Sarker took three wickets on a day when the spinners fought to keep things under control.
