An injury to Mominul Haque's right-thumb has meant that his participation in the ongoing Bangabandhu T20 Cup is over.

The national team Test captain picked up the injury while fielding for Gazi Group Chattogram in Saturday's match against Gemcon Khulna.

After getting an X-ray done, a fracture was revealed in the injured finger, which the left-handed batsman has revealed to The Business Standard (TBS).

Mominul was ready to continue batting in the tournament with the injury but Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) chief physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury has recommended him to get at least three weeks' rest.

Mominul picked up the injury with fielding in the 18th over off the bowling of Mustafizur Rahman.

"I've unfortunately fractured my right hand's thumb while fielding. I got an X-ray done and that showed a fracture on my thumb. Dr Debashish told me to rest for three weeks at least and let the finger heal," Mominul told TBS.

Mominul's finger will be further assessed by a specialist at Apollo hospital, Dr Debashish told TBS: "We got an X-ray of Mominul's done today (Sunday) and we will go to consult a specialist at Apollo tomorrow (Monday. After consultation with him, we will make a decision on what to do next. Mominul cannot take any further part in the tournament. He needs to rest for 3-4 weeks."

Mominul's team, Gazi Group Chattogram have been in excellent form in the T20 tournament so far, winning both their games by nine wickets.
