Appalling Tigers see India dominate day one

Visiting Bangladesh are well behind hosts India after the end of first day's play of the first Test at Indore as the hosts now trail by only 64 runs after Bangladesh were bowled out for a dismal 150. 

India ended the day on a strong 86-1.  Abu Jayed Rahi sent Rohit Sharma back early in the Indian innings but Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara ensured that the hosts did not lose any more wickets in the day. 

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque won the toss and elected to bat first, which was a surprise choice from the newly-appointed skipper. 

The decision soon proved to be a mistake as both openers, Shadman Islam and Imrul Kayes, returned in quick successions to reduce the side to 12-2. Mohammad Mithun was also back in the hut some overs later after being trapped LBW by Mohammad Shami as the team sunk to 31-3. 

From there, skipper Mominul put up a 68-run stand with Mushfiqur Rahim before misjudging a straight delivery from Ravichandran Ashwin to go back to the pavilion for 37. Mahmudullah Riyad at No.6 did not last long at the pitch either as he tried to sweep Ashwin needlessly, only to see his stumps getting rattled. 

Mushfiq put up a brief stand with Liton Das but saw his stumps knocked over with a brilliant inswinger by Shami at the stroke of tea for 43. Mehidy Hasan, coming in at No.8, was trapped LBW in the very next delivery by Shami, though replays suggested that the ball was missing the stumps. Mehidy refrained from taking a review and saw the side succumb to 140-7. 

Liton, who saw two quick wickets fall just before tea, was sent back by Ishant Sharma in the very first delivery after the break for 21. Taijul Islam was then sent back after he tried to steal two runs, only to get run out by Ravindra Jadeja. Umesh Yadav then bowled Ebadat Hossain to end the Bangladesh innings on 150, a miserable performance considering their decision to bat first. 

Mushfiqur's 43 was the highest for the side with skipper Mominul scoring the second-highest 37. Mohammad Shami picked up three wickets for India, with Ishant Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin and Umesh Yadav picking up a couple each. 

In reply, India were given a shock early as Rohit was sent back by Abu Jayed in the eighth over. But Agarwal and Pujara displayed an array of beautiful strokes to ensure that India were on top at the end of day's play. 

Agarwal and Pujara were unbeaten on 37 and 43 respectively at the end of day's play.
