Akram Khan's request heard as cricketers set for pay raise
"Other boards are cutting costs and there are salary cuts for staff and the cricketers. But I have requested the board president to increase their salaries by 10-20 percent," Akram said.
The contracted cricketers under BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) are set for a pay raise after days of speculation that this might happen when the new set of yearly contracts are given to cricketers.
That is according to the chairman of cricket operations, Akram Khan, who has said to the media that he requested BCB president Nazmul Hassan to increase their pay by 10-20 percent.
Akram has further said that when people are looking to cut salaries of employees during the Covid-19 pandemic in many organisations, the BCB is doing the exact opposite.
"Other boards are cutting costs and there are salary cuts for staff and the cricketers. But I have requested the board president to increase their salaries by 10-20 percent," Akram said.
"All cricketers in different contract grades will be part of this pay raise," the former national team captain added.
The BCB will send a letter to all cricketers they want in national team contracts to decide which format(s) they want to play before making a final decision.
"We sat with the selectors after a board meeting and we had to discuss a few things. We will send the players a letter within the next few days to find out with format they want to play, and then make a decision on the contracts," Akram concluded
