Xbox reportedly pushing to fast-track Halo, Fallout and Elder Scrolls
Microsoft is reportedly exploring major changes to the future of Xbox while simultaneously accelerating development on some of its biggest gaming franchises. According to a report from The Information, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma is pushing for faster progress on key series including Halo, Fallout and The Elder Scrolls as the company looks to strengthen its gaming division.
The report claims Microsoft has considered restructuring Xbox into a wholly owned subsidiary, similar to how it operates LinkedIn and GitHub. While there are reportedly no immediate plans for such a move, the possibility remains on the table. A restructuring could potentially allow Xbox to operate with greater independence while still remaining under the Microsoft umbrella.
Alongside these discussions, Sharma is said to have secured additional funding from Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood to support the development of major titles. However, it remains unclear whether this would accelerate highly anticipated projects such as The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 or instead focus on spin-offs and remasters.
The news arrives during a turbulent period for Xbox. Despite positive reactions to the recent Xbox Games Showcase, questions remain about the brand's future direction following reports of internal restructuring, potential layoffs and an increasing focus on multi-platform releases.
