'Payer Tolay Mati Nai' selected as Bangladesh's official Oscars submission

Mohammad Rabby Mridha debut directorial film "Payer Tolay Mati Nai," has been selected as the official entry for the 96th Academy Awards in the international feature film category.

The film echoes how environmental changes impact the personal lives of people living in disaster-prone areas. 

"We say 'payer tolay mati nai' (no ground beneath our feet) when we are in total despair. When we lose all hope. This name of the film represents the things that have fallen apart," said Mohammad Rabby Mridha to The Business Standard. 

Earlier, the film also bagged multiple awards including "Gautam Buddha Award" under the Best Feature Film category at the 5th Nepal International Film Festival. It also achieved the 'Special Jury Mention' under the 'Best Debut Film' category at Srilanka's 7th Jaffna International Cinema Festival.

The film has by far been screened in 14 renowned film festivals including the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF 2021) In Korea, IFFSA Toronto. 

The film made its world debut at the 2021 Busan International Film Festival within the 'A Window on Asian Cinema' category, enchanting viewers and earning praise from reviewers.
